13 indicted for allegedly stealing cars from DIA, Denver metro area

Following a lengthy investigation, 13 people have been indicted on more than 100 counts of motor vehicle thefts and burglaries that occurred at Denver International Airport and throughout the Denver metro area.“Thieves continue to steal cars at alarming rates in Colorado, but particularly at Denver International Airport and the lots that surround it,” District Attorney Brian Mason said in a Monday news release from the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s OfficeBack in July, an airport spokesperson said DIA had seen a 28% increase in car thefts during the first half of 2023, forcing airport officials to announce several new safety measures.The 13 indicted individuals allegedly stole 59 vehicles from various locations, including DIA, between February 2022 and March 2023, according to Monday’s release.The 121-count indictment includes varying charges such as COCCA, burglary, aggravated motor vehicle theft, and theft, the release stated.Related ArticlesCourts | ...Avs anthem writers Blink-182 set Ball Arena concert date

Another business has fallen victim to a flash mob-style robbery, with eight suspects targeting a local shoe store in the latest case of retail theft in Southern California. Surveillance footage shows at least five of the thieves walking calmly around the WSS store in Van Nuys around 9 p.m. Sunday night, casually stealing $5,000 to $6,000 worth of clothes and shoes, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities later confirmed that a total of eight suspects -- five men and three women -- carried out the robbery.Some of the suspects were seen exiting the store, located in the 7900 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, with merchandise stuffed in plastic bags; others just took items and walked out. The Los Angeles Police Department is looking for a hit-and-run driver who killed a motorcyclist in Mission Hills early Sunday morning.The crash occurred near Chatsworth Drive and Chatsworth Street at about 12:45 a.m., the LAPD said in a news release.According to police, a dark-colored sedan ran a red light and hit a motorcycle, then fled without stopping to help.The motorcyclist, a man believed to be 40 to 45 years old, was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A large group of employees at a Los Angeles County hospital began a five-day strike on Monday. Nearly 700 non-nursing staff at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank will walk off the job in protest of what they say are unfair labor practices. Hospital officials said that the strike will not impact patient care. The employees striking on Monday are laboratory technicians, EMTs and patient transporters.
